California’s architectural community recently lost an icon—Claude B. Stoller passed away on May 16, 2023, at his home in Berkeley at the age of 101.
Throughout his lifetime, he was known both for his thoughtful and pragmatic design and as a stalwart advocate for the architect’s role in protecting the natural environment through energy–efficient solutions.
He also is remembered for his activism for low and moderate–income housing, actively engaging the community to develop well–designed, affordable, urban solutions.
He left a lasting mark on the architectural profession and on the many lives he touched.
